SCRIBBLERS OF BREVARD
DRIFTWOOD XXXI
2012Guidelines
ELIGIBILITY
Any Brevard County resident may submit poetry, prose, artwork, and photography. Submissions must be original, unpublished and not under consideration elsewhere. All rights revert to the author, artist, or photographer after publication. Work must conform to the contest rules or it will not be considered.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
PROSE:
Fiction or nonfiction not to exceed 2500 words, double-spaced.
POETRY:
100 or fewer, printed lines, single-spaced. Title required on all poems except haiku. Artistic layout accepted.
FORMAT:
Send 4 copies of each work. Only neat, clearly printed work on 8.5 x 11 white, high-quality paper will be considered. Only first-generation copies from a clear, original, printed manuscript can be properly scanned. Do not write in pen or pencil on your manuscript. Manuscripts in all caps or script will not be accepted. You may submit as many entries as you want, but only three (3) entries of prose and poetry will be printed. Use 12-point Times New Roman. Center your title in all caps. Any story over 1500 words and accepted will be the only one to be used. The remainder can be poetry or short story. On original copy: type author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail address (if any) in the upper right-hand corner. Do not use address stickers. Put the word count for prose in the upper right-hand corner. Word count is not necessary on poetry. There needs to be three copies for judges. Identify judges’ copies by title, do not identify author. The original and all copies must be exactly the same. Please use spell check, good grammar and a computer print out. Help is always available if you need it.
No changes can be made once your material has been submitted.
E-mail your submissions to Carol Forshthe, CAROLEAF@CFL.RR.com. This makes for a better Driftwood because it eliminates scanning. Center the title in caps; center your name under the title. If you have never done this and needs help, call Kit Adams, Edith Thomas or Nancy Clark and we will talk you through it.
ART:
Do not submit originals. Submit 4 x 6 photographs of your work. The original work may be pen and ink, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, oil paint, acrylic, or other. Driftwood is published in black and white. Only the cover is printed in color.
PHOTOGRAPHY:
Submit 4 x 6 photographs. All entries must be the submitter’s own work. Photographs will be scanned and changed to black-and-white format for publication. No more than 10 entries may be submitted by any one person. Name, address, phone number, e-mail address (if any), must be on the back of each entry. Please title entry.
The anthology cover will be selected by member vote at the first meeting in August.
